SAMFU Re-Engages Land Harmonization Process in Grand Cape Mount County, Commits to Securing Community Deeds

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – September 1, 2025 – The Save My Future Foundation(SAMFU) over the weekend convened a pivotal preliminary meeting with leadership from the Fahnbulleh and Gbelleh-Gambi clans in Grand Cape Mount County, marking a significant restart to the crucial process of boundary harmonization.

The meeting, held in Grand Cape Mount County served as a platform to reaffirm commitments and strategize a clear path toward securing formal land deeds for the communities a critical step for their economic development and self-determination.

Mr. Boakai Passewe, Co-Chair of the Fahnbulleh Clan, welcomed SAMFU's return, stating that regular sessional meetings are the agreed way forward. "SAMFU coming back is a good thing; it will help us get the deed for our land in time," said Mr. Passewe through an interpreter.

Companies are requesting to do business with us, but without a deed, we cannot secure these contracts. This represents a direct loss of income for our people. Our leadership is committed to removing any hindrance to this process. He stated."

The Secretary-General of the County Land Development and Management Committee (CLDMC) Varney Mbue Fahnbulleh provided an update on the preparatory work, confirming that a meeting plan for the county's zones has been drafted and that communications are underway to reactivate the process, bolstered by SAMFU's technical and logistical support. He extended the Committee's gratitude to SAMFU for "reawakening the process" and pledged full collaboration to see it through to a successful conclusion.

In his address, SAMFU’s Executive Director, Mr. Wynston Benda-Henries, underscored the profound commitment of their partner, MISEREOR, to ensuring rural communities gain full access and rights to their customary lands.

"For us at SAMFU, and for our partners at MISEREOR, this is more than a project; it is a mission. Secure land rights are the foundation upon which communities build sustainable economic development, social cohesion, and environmental stewardship," stated Mr. Benda-Henries.

"We call on all leaders of the CLDMC and the Community Assembly to put all hands on deck. Together, we will ensure this process is completed successfully and justly, delivering the promised deeds to the people of Fahnbulleh and Gbelleh-Gambi clans says Mr. Benda-Henries."
