SAMFU and Liberia Land Authority Lead Land Demarcation in Gbao District, Grand Gedeh;
Monrovia, Liberia - A one-day consultative conference was held in Toe City on October 15, 2024, to address a land dispute involving B'hai Tarway, Blown Town, PoKor Town, and Zleh City in the Gbao District. The meeting was organized by the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) Land Dispute Office in collaboration with SAMFU, Liberia National Police, and SMILE FM’s Krahn dialect announcer.
The conference saw the participation of community chiefs, elders, youth, women, and government officials from the district, all of whom agreed that the LLA Land Dispute Office should demarcate the disputed land to prevent future conflicts. Attendees included District Commissioners, Township Commissioners, City Mayors, District Inspectors, Clan Chiefs, General Town Chiefs, Paramount Chiefs, and Town Chiefs.
Following the consultative meeting, held with citizens from both districts, the LLA Land Dispute Office received the green light to proceed with the demarcation process. SAMFU provided essential education to ensure all parties were informed.
On October 16, 2024, the land dispute team, SAMFU, the SMILE FM announcer, the National Police, citizens, and representatives from the major towns convened at the disputed land at 9:00 AM. Each community selected six individuals to explain the history of the land and observe the GPS process used for the demarcation.
There was some initial disagreement on the boundary points between PoKor Town and B'hai Tarway, but the LLA Land Dispute Office successfully measured the disputed points and divided the land equitably. Both parties agreed upon the newly established boundaries, ensuring a fair resolution.
After the demarcation, the LLA Land Dispute Office invited representatives from each community to view the process on a computer, showing them the finalized boundary lines. This transparency helped build trust and avoid future disputes.
The collaborative efforts of the LLA, SAMFU, and community members highlight a significant step towards peace and stability in Gbao District.
